Is Your Toddler Hiding Things From You: A Must-Read For All Parents

With ever-increasing work-load and responsibilities, life has become very hectic. You hardly get any time for yourself, let alone for your kids. No matter what the reason, parents cannot simply compromise with the few quality hours that their child gets to spend with them. Teachers from the play-school suggest that sending your child to a school is a necessity and marks the foundation on which their future is built but this does not mean that you are free of all your responsibilities. You have to be mentally and emotionally involved with your kid or else they will start distancing themselves from you.

As per the teachers from the leading pre-schoola lot of parents feel that their kids do not interact openly with them or hide things for them. A major reason behind this is the lack of quality time and attention. As a child is growing up, he needs to explore complex feelings and emotions, meet new people, and make new friends. This surely requires freedom but only to some safe extent. You cannot simply expect a 3 or 4-year-old to do all these things on their own without any supervision. It is pertinent to keep a keen watch on your child’s day to day activities and new explorations.

Questioning Your little one every now and then, too is not healthy as by doing so you are curtailing their mental growth. It is necessary to build an environment in which your child feels safe and free to share anything with you. For instance, if your child confesses about doing something wrong and you scold him for that, chances are that he will not share such things with you in the future. Parenting a toddler is no easy task and requires great efforts.

Being parents, you have to understand your child’s behavior and what affects it. You cannot overlook the following signs as these need to be addressed immediately to ensure that your child’s growth and development is not hindered at any point.

  • Abrupt behavioral changes - Your little one is not behaving his usual or seems disinterested. He will be fussy and cranky or become aggressive, depending upon the situation.
  • Lying -Your child lies about mere things, especially if he has done something wrong, and try to cover it up with more lies on being caught.
  • Avoids interaction – Your child will try to avoid interacting with you. He will try to remain aloof and isolated. This is their easiest way to avoid questions that they don’t want to answer. Even during family gatherings, the child tends to stay alone and avoid meeting people.

To avoid all this, it is important to indulge in regular interactive conversations with your child and motivate them by appreciating their efforts. Your child will only hide things from you out of fear. Don’t let that fear sink in and focus on building a strong and healthy bond with your little champ.
