Teaching Time Management To Your Kids

Small kids are overwhelmed by the prospect of fitting all their favorites activities and games that they want to play into the few hours that they get after school. Being adults, we have to indulge in a lot of activities on a daily basis and believe it or not, the same goes for kids. The only difference is that, unlike adults, kids find it rather difficult to manage all their activities in the available frame of time. Kids usually don’t have the cognitive skills to organize their schedule on their own. Hence it is the duty of the parents to help their kids and while some kids learn it pretty well in a very short span of time, others might need a little more effort. Teachers from the best pre-school suggest that teaching time management skills to kids from a very young age helps to make them responsible and also sets them up for lifelong success.

So, if you are wondering how you can teach time management skills to your little one. Here are a few tips from the teachers of the playschool.

Start from the seasons – What could be better than teaching your child about seasons. Seasons are the best way for introducing the cyclical nature of time to their child. By observing the changing pattern of nature, children gradually grasp the concept of time. Observing how their surroundings change over time, the trees blooming, and then shedding their leaves and blooming again, these things fascinate a child and make the concept easier to understand.

Plan a schedule – Make a proper time-table for your kid and make sure that they assist you while doing so. Fix their mealtime, playtime, and study time. Think creative. Make a clock on a chart and mention all the activities with the help of pictures. For instance, use pictures of fruits to depict the mealtime. Make sure that your child does all the activities at a fixed time and follows this pattern every day.

Teach them to be patient –The best way to do so is by planning special activities like outings and picnics and making them wait for the day. Children usually tend to be quite fussy about the things they want. Ask them to be patient and wait for the right time. If your child wants something, do not hand it over to them at that very moment as this will make them impatient and they will never understand the importance of time.

Set priorities –Since children have a very limited time frame to do their activities, it is quite important to set priorities. They need to understand the difference between ‘have to’ and want to’. If they try to do everything in a single day, they will surely not be able to do anything in a proper manner. Teach them to set priorities according to what needs to be done first and what can wait. For instance, let us suppose that your child has to complete a project and go shopping. Make them understand that you can go out the next day and he/she should first focus on the project as it needs to be submitted.
